Adopt
Opting for an adult or senior dog as your first choice when adopting a new pet might seem unconventional, but it can prove to be an incredibly gratifying decision.
Adult or senior dogs can be an excellent fit for beginners who prefer to skip the intensive training phase. Simultaneously, they can offer a distinctive source of happiness for seasoned dog owners seeking the immediate and special connection that comes with adopting an older canine companion.
Adopter's Testimonials
Bowsome, known to us since 2018, rescued a senior German Shepherd, Sir Valentino, in Feb 2020. In July 2020, my partner and I adopted Sir Valentino, renaming him Bhalu, and Richa orchestrated his journey from Ahmedabad to Bangalore during the COVID lockdown. From July 2020 to March 2021, Bhalu enriched our lives. Despite arthritis, he cherished long walks, car rides, and chew bones, living without regrets. Tragically, a hidden tumor was discovered just before he passed. Though our time with Bhalu was brief, it was about the quality of life he enjoyed. He adored us, protected us, and adored our other dog, Luke. Despite years of neglect from his previous owner, Bhalu's love remained untarnished. He accompanied us on countless hikes, offering us unforgettable experiences. He left this world in our arms, unafraid. Bhalu inspired us to adopt another senior dog, a testament to his enduring impact on our lives.
Nitin AgarwalIn September 2022, I came across an adoption post by Bowsome Senior dogs India Foundation and it changed my life. It's been over a year since I got my 7 year old boy home. Charvi hand held me through the entire process of mental preparation and counseling on call before Buddy comes home, updates on his status, arranging for his transportation, meal preparations, decompression, walks and play time. I had a thousand questions and they very patiently answered them all. Starting day 1 we realized that Buddy is epileptic and would need special care. Richa and Charvi have great knowledge about canine health and have guided me throughout this year on handling the challenges that may come with having a senior dog. Getting Buddy home was the best decision that I could've taken. The boy got a loving home that he deserved and I found my home in him.
Vaishnavi MehtaWhen I first set eyes on Mozart in April 2022, all I saw was a wilful dog, looking forward to life. He was bent and crooked and had a hopelessly awkward gait but none of that held him back for a moment. To say that the next few months, until his first surgery in November were difficult, is an understatement. Bowsome’s Richa held my hand through it all, and not once did Mozart give up. So, how could I? Mozart is a masterclass in forgiveness, strength and sheer will power. He’s also incredibly cheeky having discovered puppyhood only after his two surgeries. A 2-month foster has turned into a life together. Who knew being a #FosterFail would be the source of limitless love?
Pooja VirDogs have a remarkable ability to adjust to new owners, however, the speed at which they do so can vary depending on the individual dog and their past experiences. Overall, dogs are known to be highly adaptable and form strong bonds with their new owners relatively quickly.
No, we don’t charge adoption fees. We as a community still have a long way to go to understand and appreciate the movement called “Adopt don’t Shop”. We are so glad to see you here and reading this currently.
We often receive multiple applications for one dog. We prioritize visits with the best match individuals/families. Our dogs are living in our volunteers’ homes, out of fairness to not only the foster homes themselves, but also to the dogs that may have multiple individuals interested in them, we require all interested adopters to complete our adoption application first. We also call references to not only see if you would be a suitable adopter but also as a measure taken by us to keep our foster families safe.
BSDIF doesn’t have a physical rescue location, we are foster based, meaning all of our adoptable dogs are in homes until adopted.
YES unless there is a medical reason as to why it can’t be done. If the dog goes home before the sterilization, we pay for the surgery when the dog is ready medically. We are committed to help control dog overpopulation in shelters. Honestly we have more than enough dogs, we don’t need more.
No we don’t! We don’t send our dogs as outdoor dogs. We work hard on them and want them to become an inside dog, become a part of the family
No. Due to liability reasons we cannot do this, we also don’t like to move our dogs around too much.
We work only in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. For any emergency situation we keep back up for our dogs to come back to us. We are also familiar with the veterinary facilities in these mentioned cities only.
Yes! We will keep the application with us for the next three months. If you qualify to adopt a dog , we will match up for application with the right dog. You shall receive a call from our adoption coordinator.
We take between 3-6 days to call the applicant if they qualify. If you don’t hear from us in the next 10 days, please consider adopting from your local NGO. Don’t go knocking on breeders’ homes. Remember! We all are here for the dogs and every dog is not the right fit for every family.
We rescue dogs from abuse, neglect, abandonment and the list goes on. These dogs have a horrendous past. Once we take a dog into our care we invest a lot of time, love, patience and money. We want to set our dogs and their future families up for success for the rest of the dog’s life.
We have a small team of adoption coordinators, Richa and Charvi make the final call.
Yes! One adoption coordinator will be assigned for the next 3 months until you and your dog settles down into a routine. We also have a whatsapp support group where all the previous adopters also come forward to help. We will hold your hand and walk the next 3 months with you to settle down with your dog.
When you live alone for a long time, especially post covid and it's resultant isolation it makes you crave social contact and company. Berlin was the antidote to my urbane humdrum,he came in when I did not want a dog, or the responsibility that goes with it. His picture, those eyes, the story that all his scars and his wounded expression told, had me sold. The dog you need is often sent to you I believe, and Berlin is the angel I did not think I needed. Past his gruff, angry countenance, the growls and stubbornness emerged this sweet, loving cuddlebug. That loves nothing more than to share a biscuit, or to smuggle up and watch a movie, he is my constant companion, watching me while I paint, or watching me doom scroll on Instagram. I often hear dogs like Berlin being called "rescue" dogs but in my case, I think I am the human that Berlin rescued. If you are reading this and are considering adding a dog to your life consider adopting one, who knows, maybe like me, the dog might be the one rescuing you.
